The ATS Formula 3 Cup is the perfect education ground for young single-seater drivers. Here, the up-and-coming young talents learn a lot about the extremely important communication with the engineers and are educated when it comes to the readout and analysis of the numerous data provided by the vehicle. A professional media management and the excellent platform represented by the ADAC Masters Weekends prepare them for their next steps on the single-seater racing ladder. Now, new cooperation with the JK Racing Asia Series is supposed to pave the path to the ATS Formula 3 Cup for young Asian hopefuls, thus offering them the chance of gaining a foothold in European motor racing.
Finding the right and first of all well-targeted way in motor racing is anything but easy. The example of Lucas Auer demonstrates how it works. Following his years in karting, the only 17-year old contested the JK Racing Asia series, this winter, secured the title and now, he is contesting his maiden Formula 3 season and even is in a promising position for finishing the season as ATS Formula 3 Cup Vice-Champion.
“This is the opportunity we want to demonstrate the best young drivers racing in the Asian region,” underlines Bertram Schäfer, deputy chairman of the German Formula 3 Association. “Therefore, we are going to invite the three best drivers of the JK Racing Asia Series to an extensive ATS Formula 3 Cup test, in the future.” The level of the JK Racing Asia Series’ identification with this cooperation is highlighted by the ATS Formula 3 Cup stickers decorating every car on its grid.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer our drivers the opportunity of an ATS Formula 3 Cup test,” says David Sonenscher, CEO of the JK Racing Asia Series. “The ATS Formula 3 Cup is a great race series that is a very logical next step for drivers from our Junior Formula. This is the perfect opportunity for them to test out their available options, be seen by teams and it also enables them to once again head out to Europe and be with the rest of the graduating drivers from around the world.”
In 2011, following a global strategy change of BMW Motorsport, the JK Racing Asia Series replaced the Formula BMW Pacific. The 2012 JK Racing Asia series calendar comprises 16 races that are contested on six race weekends at five Asian and European Formula 21 circuits.
Just as it is the case in the ATS Formula 3 Cup, the JK Racing Asia Series drivers do not only learn how to race a single seater but are educated in all the aspects that are vital for a career in international motor racing.
The races are contested with the 140bh single-seater FB02 that represented the first step on the single-seater racing ladder for quite a number of successful racing drivers – such as today’s Formula 1 aces Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Timo Glock and Daniel Ricciardo, the current GP2 drivers Felipe Nasr and Rio Haryanto and – last but not least – Lucas Auer who currently holds second position in the ATS Formula 3 Cup Championship and joined Cup this winter after having won the JK Racing Asia Series, last year.
