With hugely-talented driver Alexandre Imperatori, PICC Team StarChase has a score to settle at the Northern Chinese circuit after their unbroken run of wins was dramatically interrupted there last season. Apart from Singapore’s Marina Bay Circuit, a fixture Imperatori had to miss last season, the Ordos track is the only one on the calendar on which Imperatori has not proved dominant. While luck may have been against them last season, PICC Team StarChase is looking forward to setting the record straight. Said Imperatori: “Ordos is the only track I didn’t find success on last season, and it did play a role in us not clinching the title, but I also remember I was leading most of the race before the incident. So our performance there is not in doubt. This time, the team and our loyal and supportive partner PICC, I intend to push myself right to the very limits of my ability.” The circuit, completed in 2010, has quickly earned a reputation amongst the racing fraternity as one to be respected. Located in an area of gusty winds and sandy dunes, the track surface conditions change frequently and often, but that is not the only challenge it brings. “The track surface itself is quite abrasive, so a perfect set up is required to avoid running into tyre degradation issues. Both the set up and the driving style need to be gentle on the tyres to maintain lap consistency,” said Imperatori. “As it is a very twisty circuit, good mechanical grip is needed, and you must adapt very quickly to changing grip conditions.” In the Budweiser Team StarChase Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will be Chinese driver Tung Ho-Pin who is making his Porsche Carrera Cup Asia debut this season. Tung has some experience of the unforgiving Ordos Circuit having contested the FIA GT1 World Championship round there in 2011. However, with his Porsche racing experience limited to just four rounds, Tung is looking forward to getting more time in a car which, before the start of the season, he had never even driven. Said StarChase Chief Operations Officer Mr. Robby Niermann: “For Alex and the team, Ordos represents unfinished business, and for Ho-Pin it will be an even greater challenge. However, we are supremely confident that both our drivers, as well as the whole team, will do our best to deliver the goods for our partners, whatever luck, sand, wind and the fiercely competitive field have in store.” Rounds 5 and 6 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia will be held at the 3.751km Ordos International Circuit from July 6-8. StarChase Holdings was established in 2006, and opened the first of its Porsche Centers in China, in Nanjing, in 2007. The following year saw the establishment of its corporate office, StarChase Consulting, as well as the debut of Team StarChase in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. Last year saw operations begin at the Porsche Centers Qingdao and Zhengzhou, while the Porsche Center Jinan commenced operations in May this year. |
