In the opening rounds in Shanghai last month, the team was on the pace, and looked set for a strong start to the season. However, during a valiant battle in race two, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car sustained damage in a scrap for position, and was forced to retire. Team Jebsen now has a daunting point deficit to make up in order to climb the championship leaderboard, so is raring to get back out on track.
While Team Jebsen may have its work cut out in Zhuhai, the new series regulations which see a second race reverse grid for the top eight finishers, has brought added thrills for spectators. The intensity amongst the highly-competitive field is palpable, and two truly spectacular races are guaranteed at China’s longest-established circuit.
Said Avila “The wait to get back out on track has been frustrating! We have made much progress, and have proved we are quick enough for podiums and victories, so we just want to get back out there and collect points.
“The competition is intense this season, and everyone is 100% flat out every inch of the way, which, for a racing driver, is the most exciting environment imaginable. The down side is that with the new rules, there is an increased risk of race contact as the cars are bunched up from the reverse starting order. Unfortunately that happened to us in Shanghai. But we have to put that behind us now and we look forward to Zhuhai.”
Mark Bishop, Jebsen and Co Ltd Group Director: “With such intense competition amongst an aggressive field, there will be racing incidents. Hopefully we’ve now had our fair share.
“We are focussed on the two races in Zhuhai, and the aim is to go there and close the points gap in the championship leaderboard. We know the track well and were on the podium twice there last year, so we look to produce this performance again this year.”

After a spirited start to the 2012 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season at the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix last month, Team Jebsen and talented Macau driver Rodolfo Avila are back in action this weekend at the Zhuhai International Circuit. The 4.3km Zhuhai track is the ‘home’ circuit for both Team Jebsen and Avila, and a good showing there is imperative to get their championship campaign back on track.
