Kenneth Lau of J.A.S Motorsport claimed pole during the last Qualifying session for the 2011 Asian Touring Car Series. The Season Finale, held as part of the Indonesian Series of Motorsports at the Sentul International Circuit, is expected to be an exciting weekend with soaring temperatures adding pressure to the drivers.

The Hong Kong driver clocked a best time of 1 minute 39.129 seconds, on his seventh lap to claim the fastest time of the day. Lau will line ahead of Japanese driver, Hideharu Kuroki who claimed the second fastest time for Hong Kong based Team IMSP. Kuroki’s time of 1:39.400 was only 0.271 seconds slower.

His teammate, Cheung Chi Sing will line up third on the grid after Chen Han Chen of Team AAI-Buddy Club was moved to the back of the grid for an engine change. Cheung will share second row with his Team IMSP teammate, Danny Stacy Chau.

Privateer Yu Kam Cheong and Team IMSP’s Danny Chau Kwok Sang completes row three for Round 9 tomorrow.

Pole sitter Lau, currently lies second in the points table with 74 points, 33 points behind Chen Jun San. Chen of Team AAI-Buddy Club was already declared the Championship winner for 2011 after winning the last event right here in Indonesia last July.

Chen will start the race tomorrow from the back of the grid after the arrival of his rebuilt engine was delayed. The Taiwanese and his crew are expected to work overnight to get his car ready for the 9.15am scheduled Round 9 on Sunday.
