Taiwanese driver, Chen Jun San claimed a great win during the Asian Touring Car Series Rounds 7 at Sentul International Circuit. The Taiwanese had to put up with a faulty gearbox and tremendous pressure from J.A.S Racing team driver, Kenneth Lau and thereafter, his own teammate, Chen Han Chen.
Jun San maintained a good pace and crossed the line just half a second ahead of his Team AAI-Buddy Club teammate, Han Chen after Lau made a mistake on lap eight, leaving Han Chen to pass him. Lau recovered in time to claim the last spot on the podium.
Visibly tired from the morning heat, Jun San was happy with the result of the race and said “I had a bit of luck in this race” during the post-race press conference.
“We had some problems with the gearbox five laps into the race and a fast driver, Ken Lau, was right behind me and was ready to overtake at every corner. I had a lot of pressure so I am very happy with the result.
“His laptimes was much faster than mine so I just tried to keep my line and didn’t let him overtake, which wasn’t easy, especially with the gearbox.
Meanwhile, the win was unexpected for Han Chen who immediately thanked lady luck for the result and said “I think I also had a lot of luck. I just tried my best to follow the two cars in front of me, especially since they were very fast and hard to keep up with.
“Its my first time here and its an interesting circuit. I really had a good time” ended a smiling Han Chen.
Lau was not too happy with the result, after starting out the race strong. “I am disappointed. The first half of the race I tried not to hit Chen. He was braking two to three times and it was hard to predict where he was going to brake.
“Then off the right hander, I tried to avoid him because he braked a little early in the corner and I locked up and damaged my tyres. It was very unlucky.
“Its my first time here. It’s a fast and interesting circuit and if you want to go fast you have to take some risks. You have to go on the curb and in some corners you have to have a tremendous amount of patience and wait, wait, wait to go out” said Lau.
